9th Edition
- Performance: +1
- Cost: Unchanged
- Strategy: +1
With Chapter Approved we saw Rubric Marines continue to get cheaper and in the move to 9th edition that trend almost continues. Despite a 2pt increase for a squad of 5, they go from being a solid choice to maybe the only choice for troops. With lots of good tools provided in the Ritual of the Damned book, you should even get more mileage out of them in every game.
Notes
- Can infiltrate and double-shoot turn one, and re-deploy if not going first
- New stratagem to protect them with a 4++
- Get a new Cult power for free
- Inferno Boltguns still remain a slightly under-perform but are great marine killers
8th Edition (Chapter Approved 2019)
Overall: 3.7
- Performance: 3
- Cost: 4
- Strategy: 4
Notes
- Very Durable, reasonably priced, and have psychic output. Best perform when in terrain and out of line of sight
- AP-2 Bolters are great
- Not a lot of upgrade options
- Remember that All is Dust applies to both regular and invulnerable saves
- Icon of Flame
- Seems cheap and tempting but not worth it. It only triggers on 6+ and you need to be within 12" - you'll almost never see it work
- Soulreaper Cannon
- It's a decent weapon and you won't suffer any penalties for moving and shooting it. However, you have to take 10 Rubric Marines every 1 Soulreaper Cannon, which is ridiculous. Also over priced compared to other new weapons that have been introduced.
- Warflamer
- Decent option but expensive. Only has an 8" range which limits it's use. You're forced into strategies such as waiting a turn (hiding) or using Risen Rubricae before the start of the game. One advantage is that you **can** advance and shoot these weapon and at AP-2 they can pack a punch.
