The Ultimate Guide to Thousand Sons

A complete guide to the units, spells, relics, and other options for playing Thousand Sons.

A Long Time Coming

I’ve been wanting to do a guide like this for a while. As the Thousand Sons Community has grown, it has become more and more difficult to index and organize information for beginners looking to get into the army. My goal here is to pick up the torch, in a way, in homage to Alizarium and his original work with our Unit Guides that have been available for some time.

Since the original guides have been posted (and updated) there has been a lot of changes introduced, with Ritual of the Damned being the most recent. But I don’t want to stop there, I’d like to keep an updated page for each unit with a status of how that unit currently sits in the “meta” along with any notes or changes that have happened since the initial rating was introduced.

Simple Ratings

I’ll be breaking down each unit into a category.

Competitive

This category is reserved for units that are currently or capable of seeing competitive play. These units are often some of your best options for designing a competitive list around.

Casual

Casual units aren’t quite good enough to make competitive play on a regular basis, even though we may see them in lists from time to time. These units are better suited for your weekend “Casual” games where they are fun to bring but can’t quite cut against the stronger armies and/or lists.

Dumpster

These units are just plain broken. Even in Casual games you will struggle to get them to really work well or their post cost makes them completely nonviable.

First Ratings

I’ll be going through all the units in the codex first, applying an initial rating. Then, I’ll circle back to hit the Forgeworld units and finally, Tzeentch Demons as well.
